Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), is the periodic obstruction of the upper airway during sleep, meaning breathing is stopped and oxygen to the bloodstream is severely compromised. This lack of oxygen reaches the brain and your body begins to work hard to get you the oxygen you need, causing you to awaken several times and disturbing your natural sleep pattern. Arousals from sleep can occur hundereds of times per night and often are not long enough for you to remember in the morning. Periods of apnea can last up to 90 seconds and may occur several hundred times per night.

Symptoms include:

  • Loud, habitual snoring
  • Choking/gasping/snorting during sleep
  • Pauses in breathing during sleep
